Breastfeed is the best wholesome diet and keeps the mother and child healthy. It shapes the mother's body. It is bacteria free and safeguards the baby from many diseases. A bottle-fed baby falls sick easily. Breastfeed is a nutritious diet for the baby and therefore the child does not need water or any supplementary diet for the first 4 to 6 months.

Breastfeed is a substantial diet

Scientists have shown that mother's milk contains sufficient amount of proteins, fat, carbohydrate, vitamins, minerals, trace elements and water as required by infant for first 6 months. All these are easily digestible and help in child developments. Mother's milk has 87% water therefore the child does not feel thirsty. Breastfeed is helpful in the development of bones and fights many dreaded diseases. Even a sick mother can feed the baby.

Breastfeed is nectar

Breastfeed is always pure, fresh and easily available. It is easily digestible and keeps the baby away from gastro-intestinal disorders. It is full of minerals such as Calcium, Phosphate, zinc, copper etc. It has anti bodies, which protects the child from allergies, asthma, eczema etc.

Breastfed baby has better respiratory and digestive system. It prevents infections in the manner immunoglobulin antibody works. Breastfeed has natural chemicals to fight the poliovirus. The Colostrum has immunoglobulins & lactoferrin, which increases the germ fighting capacity in the body. It is a rich source of vitamin A and has a considerable amount of antibodies.

Bottle feed - SLOW POISON

Feeding the baby on bottle is a slow poison this makes the baby sick. He may be down with diarrhoea, vomiting, weakness, and respiratory problems.

This can save 10 Lakh children every year

This is a finding of the UNICEF and Department of Women and Child Development. There is a considerable rise in artificial methods of feeding all over India and the mothers are feeding the children on powder and tinned milk every year.

110 Crore litres of breastfeed is wasted because in the 4 months of child birth 50% of children are bottle feed with tinned and powder milk.

According a report in 69 developing countries less than 25% children have the luck of being fed on breastfeed exclusively. In 11 countries this number is even less than 10%. Whereas in 15 developing countries including India this number is 50%. According to the report every mother can breastfeed a child and the first thick yellowish milk called Colostrum is the best for the baby.

If a child is breast fed for the 4 to 6 months of its birth then 10 lakh children can be saved from untimely death in the next 10 years and approximately 7000 crore Rupees can be saved by our country. This is because every year 110 Crore litres of breastfeed is wasted.

Only 12% Women feed the children on Colostrum

Only 12% women in the country breastfeed the baby within 1 hour of birth. 25% of mothers do not breastfeed the child for the first 24 hours. 79% mothers throw away the first thick yellowish milk. 57% women think that this milk is harmful.

9 out of 10 children out of 100, who take birth, do not celebrate their 5th birthday. The reason being mal -nutrition and other associated diseases. The reason behind mal-nutrition is that they do not get optimum amount of breast feed in the first 4 to 6 months.

Breastfeeding is a method of family planning because till the time she breastfeeds, she can not get pregnant.

Role of Women

The women should be made aware of all the pros and cons of breastfeeding and bottle-feeding. This awareness should reach to every nook and corner of the country.

Every mother can breastfeed her child.

Breastfeeding should be started as soon as possible after childbirth. The first thick yellowish milk Colostrum should not be thrown away and should be given to the child. It saves the child from many dreaded diseases.

Doctors say that Breastfeed is the best food. It develops the child physically and mentally.

Breastfeed has the capacity to safeguard the child from coughs, diarrehoea, respiratory infections, diabetes, gastrointestinal problems, eye sight problems, SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome), cancer, and can even fight AIDS.

The mental level of breastfed children is higher than those who are not.

The emotion bonding between the mother and cshild is higher in those who breastfeed.
